Labor Day? Already?

Wow, where has the year gone? This is, however, one of the best times of the year to head out to the lakes because the water's still warm, the crowds are gone, the kids are back in school, and the air is starting to cool down. Early fall is definitely perfect houseboating weather. Shhhhh... don't let the secret out!

Trinity Lake Fights Back!

A California TV weather reporter recently made an off comment about Trinity Lake on the evening news. He said that he had recently driven by and there was "not a drop" in the entire lake!     BIG mistake!

This Forever Team at Trinity Lake started calling, tweeting and posting until they got a callback from the station. Next thing they knew, Shannon Smith, Trinity GM, was out on the lake with the lead reporter from the station "looking for a drop or two."

Take a close look at this picture of what they saw (water) during the interview. The bottom half is all reflection and there's even a Forever Houseboat in the distance. (We put a black circle around the houseboat to help you find it.)

Needless to say, they found a few drops of water and the interview was aired on the evening news in Redding California.

One of the restaurants in Weaverville had TVs on during the broadcast and the entire dining crowd, apparently, broke out into applause after they saw the interview. Shannon is now a local hero!

The best news was, however, that on the next day, the phones started ringing again at Trinity and boaters like these were soon out on the water "looking for a few drops" too.

Lake Legends ~ Believe It Or Not...

So there we were, out on the lake and having an awesome houseboat vacation when we discovered a serious problem...

We were out of ice!
Should we take the Jet Ski and head back to the marina to buy some? We were a long way from the marina... Should we just wing it without ice for the rest of our trip? Ugh.... And... There was also a big storm brewing on the horizon. So... we decided to make sure our boats were tied in tight and wait out the storm, with "warm" beverages... before heading in.

The storm blew through like those fast moving desert monsoons sometimes do, with huge winds and lots of rain. Then... something special also came pouring down from the sky, HAIL! (Lots of it too.) Cold, round, dime sized, hail covered the top deck in minutes. We thought quick after it stopped coming down and headed upstairs and started scooping it all up... filled all three ice chests too!    Problem solved! (Believe it... or not!)

It's a Bird, It's a Plane?

The geese at Oak Bottom Marina got a special surprise recently (along with everyone else) when a winged object came down from the sky to rest on the waters of Whiskeytown Lake. Even for a California lake, this was "unusual" to say the least.

It was, however, a Searey Amphibious plane on it's maiden voyage from the factory in Tavares Florida going all the way to Seattle.
(Sound's more like a cross country migration)

The landing gear was apparently stuck as the pilot tried to land at the Redding Airport, his last fuel stop on the epic cross country journey. So... spotting Whiskeytown Lake off to the west, he decided to land... on the water.
(Good thing it was an amphibious airplane!)

"We've brought in a lot of floating vessels, boats, but this... this was a first!"

After a picture perfect touchdown on the water, the pilot headed toward the marina. There, the curious and surprised Forever Resorts staff towed the plane to a buoy and secured it for the night. A day later, after the repairs were complete, the pilot took off and completed the remainder of his flight to Seattle.

Did You Know?

NO it's not some new amphibious houseboat for a frozen lake. It is, however, one of the many snow coaches that Forever Resorts operates during the snow season so you can get in and experience the winter wonderland of Yellowstone National Park. Add in 150 snow mobiles and you have one fun opportunity!

Last Minute Deals

It's never too late to book a fun fall houseboat vacation, especially at the last minute, with extra value!

And... with the water "swimmable" at most lakes through October 31 (Halloween), there's still plenty of time to float your own fun "away from it all..." in a houseboat!
(Gasp, almost Halloween?)

Well, don't let that spook you...

Give us a call, check out current last minute deals & savings on available boats, and get going, with or without the kids.

Lake Mead:
As Seen On TV!

Much of the recent news coverage on the Lake Mead water situation has been focused on water storage and depths without much regard to the recreational surface area that's still very much there!

NBC news recently ran a segment about the lake which told both sides of the story. Thanks NBC!

Mint Oreo Voted The Best Houseboat Treat For 2014

"Mint" Oreos? Well, that's what we thought too during a recent poll of houseboaters that asked for the "Best Houseboat treat."

We didn't even know that there was such a thing as a Mint Oreo. But there it was, at the top of the list, the Mint Oreo, followed by the Double Stuff Oreo...

Besides a unique taste and the "twist & scrape" fun of an Oreo cookie, the "resealable top opening" was a HUGE factor in deciding to bring this houseboat favorite along because the packaging "keeps 'em dry too!"

We stand corrected!

A Great Way
To Start The Day!

Thanks to Marylyn from Irvine for sharing this swell and easy breakfast idea: The "Good Morning Bagel Bar"

It looks like they just lined it all up and let everyone fend for themselves.

Choice of bagel, four slice toaster right there just in case... or not... Cream cheese, salt, pepper, tomato slices, cucumber slices, and last but not least, lots of BACON!

Way to go Marylyn!
